Prince of Wales Hotel in Battery Point and the event happens on the first Wednesday of every month.

It's a pub day for senior citizens with live music and the idea, according to Prince of wales owner David Parr, has taken off.

Last week's Fourth of July celebration was booked out in advance and the hotel was taking bookings for the August show before the July show had happened.

We're turning people away - it's embarrassing,” said Mr Parr.

The music is provided by pianist John Sidney and drummer Andrew Szabo - both seniors, and it was Sidney who helped get things off the ground.

“I was chatting to John when he was in having lunch with some friends one day and he suggested the idea.

From there it evolved into what we're doing now,” Mr Parr said.

The Prince of Wales has just become a Seniors Card venue, offering discounts on meal and accommodation prices.

“I was surprised to see that there are not many hotels involved in Seniors Card,” Mr Parr said.

He said the growing ranks of seniors was an emerging market for his business. And their response to the monthly shows was proof they wanted new activities.

Down Memory Lane with John Sidney is on the first Wednesday of every month. Two-course meal plus coffee is $15 for Seniors Cards holders; $17 for non-card holders.
